GS1 XML
Use the GS1 XML standard to exchange business data via the internet. With a comprehensive list of business messages included in the standard, it’s got your business needs covered.
What is XML?
XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a specification developed by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).
Without getting too technical, it’s used for the definition, transmission, validation and interpretation of data between organisations and their supporting applications. In the trading space, it’s used to bring the idea of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to the web.
What is GS1 XML?
GS1 XML is one of the two standards which GS1 recommends for electronic business messaging.
Using the GS1 XML specification provides a standardised and predictable structure for electronic business messages, enabling trading partners to communicate business data rapidly, efficiently and accurately – irrespective of their internal hardware or software.
Note: GS1 XML does not replace GS1 EANCOM. Rather, it provides another technology standard to support the exchange of transactional data. Individual industries will dictate the use of either standard.
Standards to help your business
We have developed a comprehensive list of GS1 XML standards for a range of business processes – from aligning product master data, purchasing and planning through to complex transport management messages.
These global B2B standards solve some of the major challenges of EDI, such as a lack of data synchronisation among trading partners, and complexity and redundancy in follow-up business processes.
The GS1 XML standards:
Adhere to global standards defined by business users
Are rigorously tested for functionality in an EDI environment
Are developed using a world class standards management process
Use the eB Methodology – based on international standards such as ebXML, UN/CEFACT Modelling Methodology (UMM) and W3C – to ensure speed in development, reusability of components and extensibility
